Children and the digital

 THE 100 LANGUAGES

The world we live is increasingly defined by the presence of interconnected digital tools that drastically change our ways of inhabiting spaces, forms of communication, and the modes and possibilities with which both adults and children access knowledge.

Schools cannot remain extraneous to this reality, and must be offered as places where we can experiment with and explore these opportunities, and develop a capacity for using them actively and critically.

Series: The hundred languages of children and adults

This webinar is for those who have already encountered the Reggio Emilia Approach and would like to investigate it more deeply, through transversal aspects that thread across the different fields of learning.

To build knowledge human beings use transversal functions (activities of recognising, categorising, selecting, planning, decision making, channelling resources, representing and re-describing representations, checking etc) which manifest in specific ways in different fields of knowledge.

Fields of knowledge define a terrain, which allows children and adults to activate a dialogue using multiple languages to evolve and find points of arrival that are provisional, but which gratify the desire in both for greater knowledge.

Topic

The world we live is increasingly defined by the presence of interconnected digital tools that drastically change our ways of inhabiting spaces, forms of communication, and the modes and possibilities with which both adults and children access knowledge.

Schools cannot remain extraneous to this reality, and must be offered as places where we can experiment with and explore these opportunities, and develop a capacity for using them actively and critically.

Teachers, atelieristas, and pedagogistas, will illustrate possible encounters between children and digital through sharing documentation (photos, videos, pen and paper notes, made by teachers and atelieristas) of experiences in Reggio Emilia’s infant-toddler centres and preschools.
