The Secrets of Paper Atelier

The Secrets of Paper Atelier investigates the qualities of a commonplace material to discover its anatomy, its capacity for becoming plastic and malleable, for holding the memory of gesture, for generating, and being regenerated.

Paper is often perceived as a "materia povera",a poor or humble material, but it has hidden qualities, which are capable of posing new questions, and of helping us to distance stereotype and gain new points of view.

Paper is revealed in all its transformability, three-dimensionality, variety and multiplicity, in encounters with water, air, clay, and light, with out-of-the-ordinary analogical tools such as large light tables, or graters, mirrors, paintbrushes, tools for incision, punching and assembling, needles and thread, sewing machines - and digital tools such as webcams, microscopes, and recorders.

Our hands, body and senses discover and interpret the paper material as it becomes sonorous, architectural, and narrative, our emotional and expressive processes co-exist with those which are logical.
