LORIS MALAGUZZI INTERNATIONAL CENTRE

In February 2006, on the initiative of the municipal administration of Reggio Emilia in collaboration with Reggio Children, the Istituzione of Preschools and Infant-toddler Centres, and the Friends of Reggio Children Association – a plurality of identities generated by the same culture of childhood strongly rooted in the city of Reggio Emilia – the Loris Malaguzzi International Centre was officially inaugurated. The Centre is conceived as an open system welcoming all ages, ideas, and cultures, dedicated to the encounter of all persons worldwide who share the desire to innovate education and culture, interweaving professional development and research.

INFANT-TODDLER CENTRES AND PRESCHOOLS
ISTITUZIONE OF THE MUNICIPALITY
OF REGGIO EMILIA

The Municipal Infant-toddler Centres and Preschools of Reggio Emilia translate into everyday reality an educational project for children aged birth to six years that since 1963 has been characterized by the modernity of the theoretical reflections and the deeply rooted commitment to research and experimentation. This project is based on the image of a child equipped with enormous potentials who is the subject of rights. For this reason privileged attention is given to the children, observation and documentation of learning processes, exchanging ideas and discussion.

REGGIO CHILDREN

Reggio Children was established in 1994 to promote the rights of children through pedagogical and cultural exchange between teachers, university professors, researchers and scholars from all over the world. Reggio Children organizes professional development initiatives; promotes research projects in collaboration with universities, foundations, and public ministries, and with companies working in various industrial sectors; provides educational consultancy in collaboration with non-governmental organizations; carries out cooperative initiatives with early childhood institutions in various countries; publishes books and other materials now translated into 15 languages; designs and constructs exhibitions and organizes the related pedagogical initiatives.

FRIENDS OF REGGIO CHILDREN
INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION

Friends of Reggio Children is a not-for-profit association with more than 1000 members from Italy and from many countries throughout the world that was established to share the pedagogical experience of Reggio Emilia and, along with Reggio Children, to promote the potentials of all children. The association also manages the Remida creative recycling centre, which collects discard materials from industry and business and makes them available to infant-toddler centres, schools, play centres, and other facilities.
